Task Force Objectives
The aim of the Nutrition Task Force is to carry out research and surveys related to the various nutrition and health issues in Japan, and to disseminate the results throughout Japan, Asia, and the West.

The biggest event of this year is the holding of the Fifth International Conference on Nutrition and Aging.

Activities To Date
The task force drafted plans for the Fifth International Conference on Nutrition and Aging (various nutritional issues for each life stage), and established the necessary organizing and executive committees.

Future Activities

Holding the Fifth Annual International Conference on Nutrition and Aging (co-sponsored by the EU and SEA branches)

Location: U Thant International Conference Hall, United Nations University (Shibuya, Tokyo)

  Publishing Current Situation for Obesity in Japan, by the Obesity Working Group

International Conference on Nutrition and Aging Working Group (ad hoc)
Working Group Objectives
The working group will hold the Fifth International Conference on Nutrition and Aging this year, sponsored by ILSI and ILSI Japan, with the goal of discussing nutritional issues related to aging.

Activities To Date
A decision was made to hold the Fifth International Conference on Nutrition and Aging. An executive committee was set up in the Nutrition Task Force and activities were begun. An organizing committee composed mainly of professors from academic departments was established, and two meetings were held.

Future Activities
The working group will come up with an execution plan for the conference.

Obesity Working Group
Working Group Objectives
The aim of this working group is to survey the current situation for obesity in Japan, and to disseminate the information to nutrition experts and the government.

Activities To Date
Survey reports were prepared by seven working groups: Current Situation for Obesity in Japan, Obesity and Metabolic Syndromes, Obesity and Nutrition, Obesity and Exercise, Obesity and Eating Behavior, Obesity Research, and Obesity Worldwide. Some of these findings were presented at the Second Life Science Symposium "Current Situation and Science for Obesity."

Future Activities
Several professors will be asked to supervise the pre-publication preparations for the Current Situation for Obesity in Japan, which was compiled by the working group. The goal is for publication in fiscal 2007.
